Arrived in Windhoek, Namibia on the 23rd October (yes I know it's taken a while to get the blog going). Although our Landrover, Hektor, arrived on a ship a few days before us there was a bit of a delay getting him out of the port so we weren't reunited until Saturday 25th. The weekend was then spent doing final equipping, I say final but there seemed to be an awful lot of visits to automotive and outdoor stores. Many thanks to Ollie, a mechanic working for Foleys Overland out here for both doing the paperwork at the port and for fixing on our new gas bottles and inverter kit - so we can now charge mains computers etc.
Then we were finally off. First to the quite incredible Spitzkoppe, a group of bald granite peaks or bornhardts located between Usakos and Swakopmund in the Namib desert. Two days there including visiting some of the San petroglyphs. Of course even more importantly we now had a bit of space and peace and quite to spend an inordinate amount of time rearranging boxes of stuff in the back of the landrover. Annemarie was in her elements!
Then off across the back roads and up the skeleton coast. Not as spectacular dune or shipwreck wise as I had imagined but blimey is it barren - and so out of this world.
Quite extraordinary and you can but pity any unfortunate sailor who was shipwrecked here years ago. Didn't see any of them though!
